Until he was thirty he lived in a military barracks and knew no comforts of home and hearth. It was an epigrammatist, Mimnermus of Smyrna, who is credited with developing the elegiac meter that was used for love poetry (elegies). This was made from treated leather and many sheets were needed to produce a good length book. The Acropolis is primarily dedicated to the Goddess Athena. This is of course wrong, but that is not at all important.

Sacrifices, human and animal, took places at these sacred sites. What is interesting about this school is that it attempted to understand the universe as objectively as possible and minimize intellectual deviations in favour of cultural and mystic prejudices. That arguably goes too far in a proceduralist direction, given that the value of law remains its embodiment of reason or understanding (nous), so that while adding persuasive preludes is a better way to exercise the coercive force of law, no agreement on the basis of persuasion could justify laws which departed from the standard of nous.
